Evaluations
When beginning speech and language therapy, a comprehensive evaluation is conducted in order to gain a clearer picture of your child’s communication skills. This will involve collecting a case history (including records review of relevant paperwork), incorporating parent report and observations as well as formal assessment measures like standardized tests for speech and language. Through this we are able to work together to identify your child’s strengths and challenges in areas like speech/articulation, fluency, expressive and receptive language, and social/pragmatic communication.

The evaluation time varies based on your child's individual needs; however, you can expect a comprehensive assessment to take 1-2 hours and may need completed over several sessions based on your child's individual needs.

What you'll receive:

-
A follow up appointment to review the results and an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
-
During this appointment we'll review recommendations for next steps.
-
You'll receive a full written report of all findings and recommendations at your follow-up appointment.

Therapy
Following your child’s evaluation, the goals that were outlined to help your child grow and succeed can be targeted through one on one therapy sessions.

-
Therapy sessions are scheduled in 30 minute intervals.
-
For teletherapy, you will need access to the internet through your computer, tablet, or smart phone. Instructions for logging in will be provided to you prior to your first session.

Therapy typically occurs once per week. Depending on your child’s unique needs and the severity of the challenges, twice a week may be recommended. Spaces are limited; however, availability can be reviewed with you during the consultation.

Records Review
Some families have already pursued an evaluation (either privately or through their school system) and are ready for their child to begin receiving services. In this case, a records review of evaluations already completed can be used in place of repeating an assessment. If all the testing is valid, current, and provides a clear picture of your child's communication needs, we can develop a plan of treatment.

Record's Review includes:
-
A clinical review of available, pre-existing assessments.
-
A phone call to discuss and clarify the results of the records review as well as recommendations for therapy goals.
-
You'll receive a written summary of the results and recommendations for a plan of treatment.

*In some cases, families may seek a record's review in order to get a second opinion.
