Using your computer, tablet, or smart phone, your child will connect for therapy using a secure platform for a two-way live video -think of it like Face Time. Telehealth sessions are conducted in the same format as an in-person sessions. We'll review session goals, and your child will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities, and interactive games applicable to their goals. Children of all ages are encouraged to share their interests and when possible, these topics can be incorporated into sessions in a way that targets their goals.
Bright Path Speech therapy uses lots of positive encouragement, praising students for their personal successes.

To start, you'll need access to the internet and a desktop or laptop computer (preferred) with either a built-in webcam or an external webcam and mic. Most smart devices come standard with these. Other devices like a tablet can be used and on occasion a phone will do as well.

Environment ~ When possible, choose a quiet space that has minimal visual and auditory distractions. A great perk to teletherapy is that if it is a beautiful day and you want to be outside for your session, you can give it a try by taking your device along!
Pro tip! Have your device plugged in during your session to prevent any disconnections due to a device not being fully charged.

Many children show interest and desire to engage through technology. For many, the use of technology in therapy can assist in attention to task. However, telepractice may not be appropriate in all circumstances or for all clients and this can be discussed at your consultation as to whether it is an appropriate service delivery model for your child's specific needs.
Some client characteristics that may potentially adversely impact their ability to interact or engage via telepractice include the following:
Physical and sensory characteristics, including hearing ability; visual ability (e.g., ability to see material on a computer monitor); manual dexterity (e.g., ability to operate a keyboard if needed), and physical endurance (e.g., sitting tolerance)
Cognitive, behavioral, and/or motivational characteristics, including level of cognitive functioning; ability to maintain attention; willingness of the client and family/caregiver (as appropriate) to receive or assist with services via telepractice
Client’s access to support resources, including availability of technology (e.g., computer, adequate bandwidth, webcam); an appropriate environment for telepractice (e.g., quiet room with minimal distractions)
